Overview:The College for Creative Studies (CCS) and the John D. Dingell Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) aim to establish a cooperative relationship with the goal of developing a comprehensive re-brand for the VAMC by Fall 2023. This initiative, led by CCS group members Kyra Bowman, Michael Johnson, and Bryan Henry, seeks to align the VAMC's local brand with the core values and visual identity of the Federal Branding for Veterans Affairs, fostering mutual benefit and support between the organizations.

My group started with researching the different brand idenities for different Non-profits that either work with the VMAC or is related to healthcare. From there we gathered inspo for the areas that we would design for like the wayfing, differnt logos, etc.  After that we came up the heart symbol and the story behind it. How each heart was someone who is apart of the community and how we come together as a community to overcome hardships.
Showcasing a Collection

Overview:Documenting real-world objects in digital environments alters our perception and interaction with them, transforming them into virtual representations. The context shift influences their meaning, while digital platforms offer dynamic presentation options. For instance, when designing a website to showcase a collection of Funko Pops, rather than opting for a conventional display, the choice was made to initially show only silhouettes, with color revealing upon mouse hover. This unconventional approach engages users in a more interactive and visually stimulating experience, allowing for closer examination upon click.

Software: Figma, Photoshop, Lightroom
Process
For this project I started researching different collection sites along with websites like amazon. After seeing how they would show a lot of information all at once, I wanted to know if you took all that away what that would look like. The answer for the item I collected was to use the silhouette. With that everything is hidden and the user has to go through the journey to reveal and read the information
on each item.
Type Collage Posters

Overview:
This project builds upon the previous IMAGE + TYPE STUDIES initiative, focusing on creating collages to explore layering, composition, and typographic integration with various elements. Starting with smaller collages, the scope expanded to designing two posters sized 24 x 36 inches each. The objective was to convey the concept of creative versus mechanical across the two posters, with the left poster emphasizing creativity and the right poster representing mechanical elements, although the mechanical side presented challenges in composition and cohesion within the overall system.

Software:Photoshop, Lightroom
Process

For this project we started by collecting differnet pictures and objected that related to the theme stated above. After collecting we started by collaging 40 different smaller collage posters then we took parts of those along with new assets to make the final 24x36 posters you see above.

Designer + Context

Overview:The objective of this project was to research, outline, and creatively present information about a chosen designer, in this case, Saul Bass, utilizing print, motion, or interaction to educate the class about their significance. After researching Bass's personal life and design career, images of his work were collected to inform the design process. Ultimately, the project culminated in the creation of a set of five posters, with a primary focus on Bass's roots in the Bauhaus movement and his contributions beyond title sequences, though challenges arose in integrating surrealist elements relevant.

Software:Illustrator

Process
For this project we started by selecting a designer and researching not just thier history in the world of design but what influences them and their work. From there we selected a way to showcase their work. I chose to pay a nod to his film career by showcasing the differnt movie posters he designed. The series of posters start with Sauls origins with the bauhous movement. As you see each poster its shows his journey in his design career.
100 Page book
20’

Overview:The objective was to redesign John Maeda's book "Laws of Simplicity" into a 96-page format, employing a similar approach used in a previous 16-page book project. Utilizing styles in Adobe InDesign facilitated the creation process with minimal issues. Challenges primarily arose in managing the grid system and layout adjustments, as modifications to the grid would disrupt the layout and automatically alter the book's structure within the InDesign program.

Software:Indeisgn, Illustrator
Process
For this project I started with the idea the the text would represent sound waves. With that in mind I had a line throughout the entire book that the type would either be about or below this line. From there is was just testing different layouts and making sure it would all align. I also worked on the different heights that the text in each colum would go down too, while still keeping it interesting and work with the overall idea of the sound wave.
